Talking to Raine, you begin understand the passion he instils in others. There’s little in the way of boasting; just unflinching honesty and a steady enthusiasm as he discusses his own background, the establishment of Hello Sunday Morning, what he sees as the origins of Australia’s binge drinking culture, and the research released by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education two weeks ago, which found that 79 percent of Australians perceive the country as having a problem with alcohol.

A WORLD-FIRST, Brisbane-born program has hundreds of people rethinking their drinking.

Hello Sunday Morning helps individuals take a break from drinking up to 12 months and to use social media to write and find support for their decision.

Two years ago Chris Raine, 24, was working in advertising developing campaigns about binge drinking, such as the “One Punch Can Kill” message.

“I thought giving up alcohol was a hard thing to ask of young people so I decided to give it a try and blog about my experience,” he said. Many of Mr Raine’s friends followed his lead.

Now, two years later, Hello Sunday Morning is a fully registered not-for-profit organisation that has helped more than 550 people write about and discuss their abstinence experience.
