This night was like test! A balmy Friday evening filled with a number of social occasions – High School Reunion, Dinner with Friends and then to a Bar for one of my best friends birthdays! First came the High School reunion – back to the school I attended from the age of six to 15 – plenty of wine on offer and I resisted without any thought of temptations. Second, it was off to a pub with some of the girls from school for pizza and a few drinks – it was here that I did think it would be nice to share a glass of wine. I never actually thought about having one – but I was consciously thinking about NOT having a drink – I had 2 Lemon/Lime and bitters – enjoyed eating dinner outside in the warmth and gossiping with some great friends – I really didn’t miss having a drink at all. Onto the third gathering for the evening.

I discovered HSM while reading an article on line on ‘The Age’..maybe about 2 months ago? I was participating in Febfast thinking how awesome I was for going a whole month without alcohol! However – I did manage to buy a few ‘night off’ tickets so didn’t really manage the whole month. What I did notice during that month though, was that when i wasn’t drinking during the week I would wake up feeling fresh, I was more productive at work, I was more organised and I generally had a clarity of thought that I felt wasn’t a part of my life when I was drinking. I was also feeling fitter than I have in a long time. I like to think of myself as a bit of an athletic person – but over the last 5 years I feel like that is slipping away from me and becoming less of a priority. The reality is – I love exercising!!! Whether it be riding my bike (XC, Road or Singlespeed) swimming, running (slowly…my boyfriend calls it a shuffle) or going to the gym – I just love that high from endorphins. I feel I am losing my athletic edge more and more and I want to get that back. I work in the sporting Industry – so I also feel it is important to have a healthy image…smelling of wine or beer after a late night out with friends does not display that.
