End of the month already.

I can’t believe that I have almost reached my one month target. When I started my HSM I wasn’t convinced I would be able to stay alcohol free for a month as I had been unable to go more than 2 days without a drink but now that the month is nearly done, I’m wondering whether I should ever drink again. I am scared by the prospect of not being able to stop (or drink moderately) if I have a drink. I am not overly religious or fatalistic but I think that someone has been watching over me or the planets have aligned or whatever to make this past month as easy as it has been when before I have climbed the walls with the desire for a drink after just one day. My girls night went off without a hitch. My party buddy didn’t go and I actually realized [...]

Here you are day 14. I am really proud of myself for having come this far. I’m learning that I still have some subconscious behaviour that I need to work on. Case in point…..yesterday was a beautiful Sydney Summer day so my friend and I took off to the beach with our kids. After a couple of hours we were stinking hot so headed up to the park to find a shady spot to have some lunch. I went to get lunch and whilst I was in the queue I saw someone with an icy cold beer. I could see the condensation running down the side of the bottle and thought how delicious that would be. I was on the way to the fridge before I caught myself on… I haven’t struggled like I thought I would. This has been helped by the fact that hubby, who is [...]

Day 5

Day 5 is nearly done and what a couple of days it\’s been. I\’ll start with the good news and tell you I haven\’t had a drink – after what happened yesterday I can no longer afford one! I took my car into Ford for what I expected to be a straightforward thing (they had done a recall and said it would take an hour to fix). Went back to get the car and was told I could not drive it away as the steering shaft had come away from the chassis of the car. I have been driving my kids around in a death trap! $800+ and it has now been repaired. Hubby is v annoyed at the cost. I am relieved that the car was recalled or I may have found out something was wrong when I was doing 100km on the freeway! My glass is half full [...]

Day one on HSM and day 3 with no alcohol.

A friend told me about his site and I loved the idea of having an (annonymous) outlet for my thoughts about my drinking. I wonder (scared) whether I am an alcoholic. I do have a family history. As I have gotten older I have begun to drink more and more. I have been pregnant/breastfeeding twice in the past 7 years and have had no problem closing down the bar for the duration but have ended up back on the roller coaster after the milk bar closed down! It is after the bar reopened at Christmas 2009 that I have been drinking very heavily. I would happily polish off a couple of bottles of wine a night and (usually) have a minimal hangover the next morning. In the past 3 years I have not had more than a 2 day break between drinks. As well as making my weight balloon alcohol [...]
