A Broth of Retrospect.
01/09/11 • 1 Comment

So here we are. Two months deep into this crazy little thing called Hello Sunday Morning. No better time to take chicken stock of the situation and conjure up a broth of retrospect. Looking through my goals on the left, i’m reasonably happy with how things have gone. My blog has been reasonable regular. And you’ve even been kind enough to comment on some of them! Thanks for that. Unfortunately one of my problems, which i should have even placed in my list, is to reply to emails and general correspondance promptly, or at least at all. I find myself a lot, whether it be on facebook, email or even this very blog hearing from people who have taken the time to get in touch, taking in what they have to say, but through lazyness, procrastination, forgetfulness or some other useless excuse, not replying. It’s never malicious or anything. Sometimes [...]

Misguided Justification

Oh hai dere. So I find myself home on a Saturday night doing nothing. Sorry, I don’t mean nothing. I am watching the Bulldog’s and Bombers play each other in the AFL. Sorry, I don’t mean I’m watching the Bulldog’s and Bombers play each other in the AFL . Given my tv doesn’t work, I’m watching the AFL website’s flash representation of what is currently happening in the Bulldog’s/Bombers game. It looks like this; Ok, fine, it’s a Saturday night and I’m doing nothing. And it’s not the best situation, because HSM is about seizing every opportunity that you can. I even stumbled across a blog on this very website the other day in which the HSMer was saying they needed to stop writing blogs and instead get out and live it up. I thought that was a really healthy way to look at it. In my defence or misguided [...]

Hey Compadres! I hope this blog finds you well. And I certainly hope it doesn’t find you down a well. If it does, I’m impressed with your dedication towards social alcoholic change, but perhaps you should jump off the HSM website and head over to the SES website. Anyway, first let me apologise for not blogging for a while. As well as being generally busy not drinking, there were a couple of other things I had to write such as a teenage girl advice column in Girlfriend magazine. Don’t laugh. But I’m back with the post Splendour wrap-up, so here we go. To be honest, it was a bit tough. There were times where I thought I should just go ahead and have a beer or two. I was more inclined to than usual for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the free alcohol trap reared its ugly head once more. [...]

Sober Splendour

Hey Amigos. I’m hitting Splendour in the Grass for the second time ever next weekend. It should be a whole bunch of fun, but given it can have a very large drinking focus, us HSM peeps can feel a little ostrich-sized. So i’ve put together a small care package about the positive aspects of being dry at a music festival. Enjoy! Alex Dyson’s Top Ten Tips for a Sober Splendour What’s that? You’re hitting Splendour in the Grass sans the sauce? Good for you! What’s that? You don’t think you can get through it without a list of ten tongue-in-cheek but overall hopefully inspiring tips that show you can enjoy yourself at a music festival without having to get maggot on fermented liquids? Ok, I’ll write some! 1. Money Everyone likes having more money! And if you decide alcohol’s not your cup of vodka laced tea this Splendour, you’re bank [...]
