…since I last drank. Yeah, it’s nice. I feel a little bit more clear-headed and there’s a little bit more money in the bank. The morning I woke up in a pool of my own vomit seems eons ago (when in reality it was, like, a week and a half ago). Music to Run to

It’s Friday night and my fourth alcohol-free day. I decided to stay home; I’m not quite ready to face the weekend nightlife sober. Instead, I cleaned the bathroom. Then the kitchen. *cough* Madness. In the past I’ve used the monotony of housework as an excuse to bust open a bottle of wine. Tonight may well have been my first cleaning-sans-drinks experience in several years. The reflex was still there — I spotted an almost-full bottle of vodka in the freezer and thought, “Oooh-er, I forgot about you! Tonight’s gonna be alright!”, and then, “Oh yeah.. the sobriety pledge.” But whatever, the disappointment was fleeting, and the satisfaction of a clean bathroom is kinda more enduring, I guess. Anyway. As part of my new sober life stuff, I’m going for a run tomorrow morning with a friend. I’m pretty unfit. This will probably end in me either vomiting or coughing up [...]

Dinner out tonight

I had dinner out tonight. I panicked a little every time I remembered there wasn’t a glass of wine in my hand. Admittedly, it’s nice to be sober at 9pm, just chilling with a book and my laptop. I’ve been considering (re-)starting up with my other favourite carcinogenic, tobacco, for the duration of these three dry months. Just as a social crutch. Does that defeat the purpose? Hmm. Hmmmm.

I’m going to make this quick because I have a cat walking all over my keyboard. This is Day 1 for me. Day 1 is going to consist of little more than work from 9-5 and a sewing class at 7. So no temptation there, I guess. Christ. This is going to be a looooong three months.
