Then life changed… My father died and my mother feel into ill health through her loss. I was trying to support my husband in further studies. My husband was retrenched and had to take a contract job interstate, so I was left alone for long periods at a time.  I had much to do and many friends but I was very lonely but not really unhappy. Gradually my husband\’s career improved and he became very work orientated.  So now he was away for periods with his work.  At this stage we decided to start a family.  This meant that I was cut off from my many friends,  work satisfaction and social life . Do I have a problem with self control in relation to drinking…Yes…but not always…. Do I drink too much sometimes..Yes Do I drink too much socially and in public…NO Do I drink too much when I am at home ..YES The question is WHY? In the beginning…. I never drank at all.  I came from a home where we rarely had alcohol, Dad would have a beer after tennis on Saturdays and the only alcohol in the cupboard was sherry and brandy for the Christmas custard and icing for the cake. I was occasionally allowed a shandy at special events, but never really liked it.  Then the wines around at that time where all sweet .. Blue Nun.. Mateus etc and were foul.
