What is the best way to welcome a new student to uni? Yes that’s right folks, doing shots to the song of the same name. O-week means two things; one less important than the other. The first is that we come to uni in this week to adjust, to find our way around the buildings that at first seem more intimidating than they seem, now it’s just the essays that do that to a uni student, frighten you that is. But I am not any under any allusions that we, the students come to O week to solely adjust to higher study, and why not? Giving up the grog: Life and other Prospects

The lost nights, the hazy memories, the awkward mornings, or afternoons and above all, cleaning up the mess made; both metaphorical and literal. Since when was drunkenness a token of pride, a badge to boast and a competition to outdo all your friends? I think I very well may have missed the call on this trend. Something happens to your throat when you drink; a tolerance is built which ironically the next morning your body no longer has. Shot after shot it is an amusement and novelty and we have all been led to believe that drinking is part of the uni experience, whereby there are no rules, a never-land without consequence and scathing critiques of this culture like this, will go on unheard.
