Post #2 Half way mark. Word has gotten around my friends, family and colleagues of my 3 month commitment to being sober over the festive season. Without a doubt the hardest time to take on such a mammoth challenge. Reactions have differed greatly from: “way to go Charlie” to “call me in 3 months when the Camel grows some balls” (Thanks Stu). It’s December 14th, I’m at the half way mark. I’m 3 Christmas parties down and 2 to go. I’ve resisted the pull of free Verve, Sake infused cocktails and crisp pear ciders. I’ve watched my friends and colleagues slowly marinate themselves in booze with a mixture of slight envy and a comfortable feeling knowing I’ll wake up tomorrow feeling great and functioning. THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL’S BACK (Charlie)

My vague recollection of Saturday 3Oth October goes a little like this. I’m at a Jazz festival in the Hunter Valley enjoying myself, possibly a little too much. 6 girlfriends and I had spent the day enjoying wines of the region and a bottle of vodka we’d snuck in to the event. As we neared the end of the festival, I remember a distinct change in our behaviour. One moment we’re sitting on picnic chairs under a shade tent enjoying chatting to each other, the next moment half of us are making space for cartwheels and the other half of us are tackling each other to the ground. Whether my foot/ankle was trodden on whilst I was falling to the ground or whether my foot was just caught up in the rumble, I really have no idea.
