Well after finishing the original goal of 4 months and on the eve of 5 months, I called into a mates place… Almost one glass of wine later… the body was feeling abit funny… Got the flushed cheeks, the warm feeling and the slight dizzy feeling you would normally get after a few too many… obviously after almost 5 months, the body is wondering what this is that Im drinkin!!! Felt like i was 16 again after the first drink! Not too bad but over the last sober months i have learnt that the alcohol doesnt need to be the centre of all parties and I definately dont need it to be the life and soul of the party!!  I have learnt to have fun, socialise and wait for it…. dance sober!!  Although I still maintain that I can only play pool after a few drinks!!!  So although we have [...]

So the silly season is looming… The time has come for my calender to fill up and time to attend many events where the main aspect is drinking… I want to encourage everyone wherever you may be on your journey to remain strong during this time… Just think of it like any other party you may have attended while on your HSM Journey and for the toasts etc put some sparking grape juice into a wine glass… (less explaining and you can still feel part of the fun) I look forward to the challenge of this season and being able to enjoy every moment… with a big shift on the horizon, i look forward to spending as much quality time with my family and friends and making the most of every opportunity over this last summer in nz!!!! 4 month day challenges!!!

So the four month day has arrived…Last night as i sat here typing my blog i thought… Yes this is the right decision and yay Ive made it to 4 months… let make it 5.. Today after a really bad day and things just all going wrong, i thought hmmm this is my test… after lots of thought and consideration… a bag of freddo frogs and a tummy ache from all that chocolate, i decided. NO! You’ve come too far to chuck it all in now! So i had to let the sugar hit be it tonight and hopefully get some sleep when the sugar high calms down Anoother day, another accomplishment! So I made it… somewhat generally unscathed and very surprised!!! My original goal was four months but who knows might need to extend it to 5..then 6?? Not sure really where to go from here but for now am gonna celebrate tomorrow night with a mate, a movie and a Lemon lime and bitters. We’ve made it thru the funny looks, the curious looks, a 60th birthday, three dance parties, the return and farewell of a family member,stress, grief, Birhday drinks and much much more and of course the comments both negative and positive.  Huge thankyou to HSM, and my amazing friends for making this easier than I thought it would be and for still loving me when we go out… Still, even after 4 months and even as i sit here typing this, my flatmate is enjoying a glass of sav and im eyeing it up, wiping the drool [...]
