Are you sure about that……………..

It’s been almost two months now and I can honestly say that doing a HSM has changed my life. I also believe that I have had a positive influence on those people who are in my ‘circle of influence’ being my family, friends and workmates. Here is a link to Chris Raine’s 3 minute presentation at a recent conference in Brisbane. It eloquently shows how each and every one of us can and should influence our drinking culture. http://hellosundaymorning.com.au/2011/11/17/chris-raine-at-tedxbrisbane-2011/ Although my my friends and family might argue that I’ve been a little annoying at times, like a dog with a bone trying to get my message across, I know that I have got them talking about HSM. I think that I may have also got them asking themselves if they really do need that 3rd glass of beer, wine or spirits. I’m just back from a family holiday with Mum [...]

changing habits

I\’ve been going for 5weeks now and feel so fortunate to have been on this journey with you all. Whilst I havent managed to achieve any of my goals (yet) I\’m in a much better place. My husband and I have had lots of in depth chats about the role alcohol played in our family , social and business lives. to be honest we are both no less \’tired\’ than we were before. We guess that is because of the demands of our 18 month old. also, I haven’t embraced exercise (yet) and I know that will definitely help my energy levels. when I started on my journey, we discussed what the \’trigger\’ was for me to start drinking. We realized it was the habit that I had formed of walking in the door after work every day and saying \’ Geez I feel like a drink\’ or \’ what [...]

The sobering facts of life

Congrats HSM for getting a mention in a story I found on the courier mail website today; The sobering facts of life by:Kylie Lang From:The Sunday Mail (Qld) October 30, 2011 12:00AM http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/opinion/the-sobering-facts-of-life/story-e6frerdf-1226180549250 I found the last few sentences in the article the most interesing and I\’ve changed one of my goals because of it. Alcohol taxes, advertising campaigns and raising the legal drinking age will not bring a culture change. We need to address the reasons for the loneliness, anxiety and self-consciousness that alcohol masks. We need to talk more with kids about alcohol. Good suggestions can be found at alcohol.gov.au And we need to set better examples ourselves. In short, we need to change the narrative about alcohol. Initiatives such as Hello Sunday Morning are starting conversations we must have. HSM challenges people to give up grog for three, six or 12 months and blog about [...]

CSR &12#in2012

Hi Chris, I think that a good way to get big business involved and sponsoring is to package the deal as follows; first ask them to make a donation (let them decide what they think is appropriate) then, 1. Ask big business to nominate ‘our drinking culture’ as part of their corporate social responsibility standards. 2. Corporates have a social responsibility to their staff to encourage a healthy lifestyle. 3. The process is simple – corporates to encourage their employees to participate in a HSM in order to evaluate the drinking culture currently promoted(or even encouraged) within their organization. 4 Create opportunity for dialogue within the orgainsation on how a formal ‘alcohol’ policy will be incorporated into the company CSR guidelines. 5. when the company feels that they have completed their goals – you can suggest that you will be asking them to make a donation (let them decide what [...]

Ocsober

Hi Chris, me again! I\’ve just checked out the pages from the highest fund raisers doing Ocsober. You can see that there are alot of businesses and community groups donating to this cause. They might be interested in participating or donating to HSM after Ocsober has finished. It would be great to be given a referral by Ocsober – although I suspect that they probably want all the fund raising for themselves – which is fair enough. Even if you didn\’t get any extra funding – the extra profile would be useful.
