I decided to start my HSM with the New Year.  The technical beginning was midnight on the 31st of December though I didn’t drink the two days before that nor very much at all since my first post anyway.  I started my HSM midway through the Woodford Folk Festival which I thought might be challenging though it wasn’t really been at all.  It’s not the kind of festival where everyone is necessarily binge drinking though so I think that made things easier. Why?

I spend a lot of time being unhappy and wondering what I can do to change that.  I’ve had copious amounts of therapy, gone overseas, taken up rockclimbing, been to naturopaths, died my hair, found new boyfriends and ended relationships in attempts to reinvent myself into a new person who is happy and confident.  Nearly all of those things have really helped but there’s always a nagging anxiety and sadness looming in the background, the gap between who I am and who I want to be feels so wide and I think the thing causing that gap is alcohol.
