One glass of excellent Pinot noir
22/02/12 • 2 Comments

sooo… I haven’t blogged in a while, and during that time, I’ve “fallen off the wagon”. But I’m totally okay with it. I turned 29 on Sunday, so my boyfriend and a dear friend and I went down to Flinders so I could be by the sea, breathe clean air and not be trapped in suburbia. The weekend was perfect. I got to speak to my parents, who popped out of the jungle in Papua New Guinea to call my younger sister and I on our birthdays, I got four ocean swims in, had a spectacular fish burger, went for a great walk, and got the most thoughtful present from my boyfriend. Oh and we stayed in a brilliant house in lovely rolling countryside. I have to admit, I drank a lovely glass of local sparkling (having resisted the Piper Heidseck the night before) on what was to be my [...]

Friday nights
10/02/12 • 0 Comments

Just a short blog. My first Friday night without plans or calamity.  This time last week I was dealing with police and a locksmith. This week has exhausted me, and it was only dropping off my friend and nattering that I realised that I have missed drinking. Probably not the actual drink so much, but more the practice of drinking. Friday nights are different off the grog. I managed to do lots tonight, which was good. But it’s all good. My new car is zippy and the colour is pleasing. Tomorrow I move all my belongings into a storage unit, and wave goodbye to my lovely former house in Fitzroy. I have to go to a couple of parties, which will be fun. I hope to be spend Sunday patting the cat and weeding the garden. That’s all.

Things aren’t shit
09/02/12 • 2 Comments

Today I’m feeling on top of the world. I’m typing this blog post on my brand new mac to the sound of crickets in the leafy suburb of MontAlbert, where I’m housesitting. The cat has given up on me, and has gone to claim the best side of the bed. I’ve just gotten home from a ABC Radio National interview with a client I’ve worked with a bit, he’s an inspirational dude who lost it all in the GFC and ended up homeless. I could talk to him for hours. He gallantly agreed to go on national radio and talk about being homeless. Big ups to him I say, I respect him immensely for having the balls to do that. In the car on the way home we talked a lot about loss of community, and how easily it is for society to turn a blind eye to disadvantage. He [...]

Week one down!
05/02/12 • 2 Comments

Week one is over! It’s been a busy week, personally and professionally, and it wasn’t as hard as I thought! I caught up w numerous people during the week, and drank soda water. I slept really well, and was really fresh for a busy week at work. Heaps of media calls, a new staff member, and lots of projects starting. I was pretty happy having a clear head for all of that. Friday night I got home to discover some loser had broken in to my house and stole all our computers, tv, and electronics, as well as ransacked our bedrooms. I was pretty upset, but delighted to discover no desire to have a drink afterwards. Once I felt okay about leaving the house I went out with my lovely boyfriend to a friend’s birthday drinks at the pub and then on to a party in west Brunswick. I gallantly [...]

Day one, or is it two? These cats made me laugh
30/01/12 • 1 Comment

So, day one has been and gone, I suppose it’s actually day two, given I started yesterday. I was thinking about Pinot gris a little bit on the tram, not in a I want Pinot gris for breakfast way, just vacantly, as I tried to hold on. It was quite packed and I wish I’d rode my bike. I had a perfectly nice day, I was quite busy, I told some colleagues about this thing. My facebook post about it regularly collected likes and comments, (as did the post about cats). I thought about this blog, and I thought “I’ll frame up the social engagements I had planned after work as a challenge! that’ll be exciting.” But the reality is, they weren’t a challenge, they were fine, and quite lovely. I was meeting a friend for a drink, so I ordered a lemonade, it was very refreshing, and I paid [...]
