Six weeks in 12% in for my year. Feeling good – going to do a 1/2 marathon in January and training starts this week!! Struggling a little with eating snacks. Don’t really miss the alcohol now except when my wife is unhappy and stressed or I am socialising. Like being sober and with it at work – also finding I need to come up with new interests to fill in the wasted drinking and watching tv time. Fortunately being saved by the rugby world cup in this regard at the moment!

5 weeks in and loving it. I feel revigorated, I am more positive, I am doing better at work. And with any luck my wife looks like coming back to me. It is amazing how much negative impact booze was having in my life and the benefits I am getting from not drinking. Thanks HSM.

4 Weeks in

Nearly a month – yah. Found the non drinking bit easy (ish), finding it harder to deal with people asking when am I going to drink again. Could be never I really like being sober, it seems more about them than me – although that could just be my story! Love waking up early and energised. Not drinking doesn’t fix your life (I am still separated, still unhappy about it) it does make living that life for me a much happier and more fulfilling experience. Onwards to two months!

Day 23

Three weeks in and going well. Really tempted to have a beer when I went out with my old drinking buddies to a favourite haunt on Thursday bit stuck to the old ginger beer. I struggle a little with the boredom of non drinking – the lack of different and interesting beers and wines. Pretty minor really given the benefits. I feel much better, my head is clearer, I am more productive and work, I am getting fit, I get up brighter and earlier, I have lost a heap of weight.

Day 16 made two weeks and feeling great

Two weeks down and feeling great. Done a good amount of exercise despite really bad whether here in Wellington. Started using the stairs instead of the lift at work. Dropped quite a bit of weight. All this despite my marriage looking pretty bleak. My wifes last warning was apparently really a last warning so I am getting what I deserved, strangely (not) she finds it hard to believe that this time I really am going to do something about the amount I drink. Its odd because I really feel that I am, I don’t desire alcohol, am enjoying the exercise and feel very positive. My boss gave me a beer last night even after I said no – I still turned it down to it – so feeling pretty good about that as well.
