Sober ‘Crumping’ – Is there any other way?

I’m standing in the middle of the club, Lil John “to the windows, to the walls” is pounding through the speakers, I look around and the group of friends I’m with are dancing in a circle mimicking what looks like a scene out of Step Up, and I realise no, I’m not feeling awkward with my non-alcohlic beverage in hand, I’m totally loving sober ‘crumping’. Six weeks into my HSM we went out to Birdees for my boyfriend’s birthday hence the genre of music playing. While I’ve been out many a time sober prior to my HSM, I was particular concerned about this one night. It’s not very often that you turn down a drink when celebrating a loved ones birthday. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila & a donkey?

I began my 3 months (I’m currently 1 month down) feeling fairly confident that this challenge would not be so challenging, more so a breeze, with possibly a few hurdles – 1. being my birthday in the middle and 2. being my new found love for cider (mmmm cider). Of course, I was wrong. My HSM started on the backend of a crazy night in Mexico, with hours of tequila shots provided by a donkey with a tequila pouch, and copious amounts of magaritas – needless to say that 3 months of sobriety was looking pretty attractive the next morning. A bit of background of how I got here: I think one of my major tipping points occured the moment I got minor alcohol poisoning in year 10.
