The first weekend

Well here I am five days into my 3 months of no alcohol and my first weekend over.  It was quite interesting to go to a friends barbecue yesterday and to be the only one not drinking.  There were a few jokes about betting on me lasting, how would I get through christmas, new years and a two week holiday away but generally they supported my decision which after reading lots of other people’s blogs here seems unusual!  The lunch started off OK as we were all on an even playing field but 2 hours in and a couple of bottles of champagne later I had to go and sit with my son and read to him as they were all yelling at each other so they could be heard and talking lots of shit.  This can’t be a bad thing as in the past I never seemed to have [...]

Day One

Well here I am at the beginning of what I hope will be a successfull 12 week abstinence from alcohol.  It should be an interesting time as I try out 2 new things – sobriety and blogging!  This is such a fantastic idea, to have access to other people’s thoughts regarding this challenging task.  It really makes you feel that you are part of a team that will support you like a friend would.  I have read a number of blogs and it has made me realise how many people are affected by unhealthy drinking habits.  I really want to succeed at this so I can be a positive role model for my son.  I do not want him to remember me as always having a glass of wine in her hand.  With that in mind I will settle down in front of the tele with a big glass of [...]
