Hubby calling HSM my “High School Musical” now … not feeling very musical. Sick of sugary, fizzy drinks and could kill for a glass of red. Have started stressful new job today and would really love a drink. Work place even has a BAR can you believe it. At least I will not be tempted to down several drinks on Friday evening and demonstrate my singing ability to my new boss!!! He can be grateful to High School Musical for that at least …

Thank you HSM for the opportunity to say no to alcohol for 3 months. I have tried many times in the past to get it down to one night a week but always failed. It occurred to me last night that I have now managed about 39 days without alcohol! Somehow this was just the boost I needed. I hope I can continue to keep alcohol in its place after the 3 months is up …

Fell off the Wagon … but it WAS my birthday

So have to confess I had a bit of champagne on my birthday but have been very good apart from that. Dear husband is now completely on board with the whole abstainence thing and almost threw himself in front of said champagne to stop me partaking. But I always said the whole point was to push it back to high days and holidays so thought that a birthday was a fair enough time to have a wee bit of a tipple. Anyway, as I say have been very good apart from that and am now starting to notice how alcohol has become a huge part of society and how people are like a baby with a lollipop over it. Hot chocolate

So cold here in Wellington I am only interested in hot chocolate at the moment. But did recently discover that a drink called “Soul Virgins”, lime, lemon and mint (mojito) is very nice. Found it at the supermarket after picking up another box of four bottles of diet lemon, lime and bitters but the cardboard had been ripped so one bottle fell out and smashed on the ground. No one said this quest would be easy!

Incredible how many Mums my age I speak to have become too partial to a drink while cooking tea/in the evening. What is this – a boredom thing, stress release after a hard day. Some says things like I will give it up next week – will just have one drink. hhhmmm. It will be so good for it not to be the norm for my kids to see me chucking back the vino while hiffing things at the fry pan in the evening. I am starting to add up how much I will save each year by giving it a miss – reckon a couple of grand. Told hubby we could probably have a trip to Sydney on that – I think he has other plans for it!
