First Hello Sunday Morning Post (Enrique)

May 29, 2010 Enrique Suana 2 Comments

Hi, I’m Enrique, I also saw the story on 7 news, prior to this i had already quit drinking,  I’ve been off alcohol for 2 months now and going very strong. I woke up one morning in April with a nasty hangover thinking to myself what happened last night, how can this be classified as fun? Also not to mention that night I was  involved in an alcohol fueled argument over nothing, this was the turning point for me.

I’ve been a keen runner for the last 2 years however i’m now seeing how much of a hindrance alcohol is on your fitness.  I used to love to have my cake and eat it too (drink and do distance running) however you can go alot harder and further without the hindrance of binge drinking.

HELLO TO HELLO SUNDAY MORNING (Amelie)

May 29, 2010 Amelie 4 Comments

Hi, my name is Amelie and I am a new member – I saw the story on ch 7 and thought the idea was really interesting and something I needed to do.  Yes, there was a ‘light bulb’ moment for me (that involved gin and memory loss) and I am happy to say I am already 2 weeks into my 3 month HSM – yay.  I have tried to give up alcohol before but without the support systems I found it very hard.  All my friends drink and it is so hard to be the ‘odd one out’.  It has just become a part of my life but I don’t really think there is any benefit at all to me.

In the past 2 weeks, I have soooooooo much more energy, can pack more into each day.  I like feeling ‘in control’ of my actions and  words  – life is simpler.  I certainly don’t miss the hangovers!

Our Swords (Gabe Hutchinson)

So this is the end. With one week remaining in my HSM I would like to share with you all the things that I like or even love about being a teetotaller (is that one L or two?).

I once heard that if you ever reach total enlightenment while drinking a beer, it will make beer shoot out your nose. This has instilled in me a great fear of over thinking while knocking back a brew or two. Seriously though, my extended period of abstinence has allowed my mind to operate much more clearly. I’m remembering things I haven’t remembered for years and I love it. My clear mind has also kept me occupied at work. A few times I feel like I’ve been on the brink of enlightenment only to realise that I’ve actually gone mental from thinking about absolutely everything in circles for hours. This is where the improved crainial activity can be a positive or a negative. Arguments with yourself aren’t fun.

IT’S IN MY BLOOD (by Jason Rohloff)

May 29, 2010 Jason Rohloff 3 Comments

Here I am, a 32 year old New Zealander who has been living in Sydney for the last 11 years, working in management for a large financial services firm.

I grew up surrounded by alcohol, when I was sixteen I started getting into it in a serious way and I believed it was “in my blood” to grow up and be a gin drinker (the drink of choice in my family).  I did what most teenagers in my neighbourhood did, getting my hands on some alcohol and getting drunk each weekend.  The drinking age in New Zealand was 20 back then so we couldn’t go to pubs but instead got drunk in trees in the Botanical Gardens (we had to hide from the guards who patrolled the grounds at night).

Jumping Off (by Alex Jones)

Hello Sunday Morning, not to forget all you other mornings of the week that may be feeling somewhat left out by the title of this blog. You too deserve credit for giving me a reason to wake up each morning. Even if it is through bloodshot hungover eyes that provide no elusion to the fact that I may empty the contents of my stomach onto the hotels front desk at any moment. But for at least one new set of eyes is a vision that is not impaired by excess alcohol consumption. I now look forward with a sense of trepidation and excitement to a future without the alcohol safety blanket that I have come to rely heavily upon.

Ctrl + Opt = Shift (by Ebony Frost)

Something interesting happens when you begin to take control of your own life.

Heads turn. People ask questions. ‘Noise’ appears. Some people pat you on the back. Others don’t like it one little bit.

Options materialise. Something shifts.

My View of HSM (Chris Ruddock)

May 25, 2010 Chris Ruddock 2 Comments

I recently had a great conversation with my parents about HSM! To date, our conversations about the HSM concept have not been as constructive as this one.

The conversation started at dinner, where I brought up that I finish HSM in two or so weeks!  I explained to them that for the last month or so I had been feeling as though my HSM had been unsuccessful ….

I thought I was done here? (Benny)

I thought I was done here… ?

I have my 6 months down and out – I had a blast. Learnt a lot about myself, the people around me and booze – and yet – the HSM road just continues to stretch out ahead of me. I know it’s something that’s going to be with me for a while – maybe forever.
It was a short-term change for a life-time benefit.

I know that I’m going to be involved with HSM for a long time – I’ve done it – I might do it again… who knows? I don’t think there’s a rule saying you’re only allowed one go?… Is there Chris?

My Yes! (by Douglas Morris)

Hello friends!

Well, it has been almost 3 months since I made a commitment to myself to say No! to alcohol and Yes to positive change in my life. I must be frank and say the other commitment I made was to blog weekly – which plainly hasn’t happened. Lets begin to make up for it.. … Continue Reading

Hello Sunday Morning

It's easy to get swept away in a drinking culture. Sometimes we just need a rope to pull us to dry land so we can get some perspective. Hello Sunday Morning is one such rope.

The program is open to anybody that is ready to go three months without drinking and find the reasons in their life to say Hello Sunday Morning!
